The ecological footprint of the Costa Rican does not currently cover what each inhabitant occupies to obtain the volume of clean air, the amount of drinking water, the amount of the marine surface to provide aquatic food and the amount of soil to: provide food, protect ecosystems and biodiversity, to provide the energy that is consumed and infrastructure (housing, health, education, transportation, services).

The State of the Nation 2019, in its section on “Harmony with nature”, indicates: “Costa Rica maintains an unsustainable use of strategic natural resources for development. This is reflected in a stagnation in the patterns presented for several years, which prevents facing a diversity of profound changes in the environment, both natural and economic, social and political ”.

In seeking to contribute to the change that is required in terms of environmental sustainability, since 2014, Grupo Financiero Improsa assumed the challenge of measuring, mitigating, compensating and adapting its impacts on the environment and in 2019 decided to expand the tasks, by develop a Business Eco Efficiency strategy that allows a rigorous analysis of the ecological footprint of the portfolio of properties in which the real estate investment funds managed by Improsa SAFI invest. The analysis focuses on the following topics:

  1. Fossil fuels

  2. Electric power

  3. Hidric resource

  4. Comprehensive management of solid waste

  5. Compensation and adaptation strategies.

In the first instance, at Grupo Financiero Improsa we focus on measuring the performance of a group of properties in this area, through a technological platform that records the behaviors of the key items mentioned above, and analyzes the impacts that are produced, in order to be able to make timely decisions in relation to the challenges that arise in each of the selected real estate.

As a result of this management, it has been possible to make successful investments in efficient infrastructure, allowing savings in electricity, water, and the reduction of Greenhouse Gases (GHG).

As a result of the tasks carried out, the Improsa Financial Group was able to obtain a Blue Flag in three of its main offices or branches, as well as in nine properties in which our real estate investment funds managed by Improsa SAFI have investments. These properties are detailed below:

El Tobogán Condominium

Multipark Office Complex

Forum I (condominium 4 and 5)

Tribute Corporate Center

Torres del Campo Office Center

Torre la Sabana Office Center
